Retrofitting the pumps with DuPont™ Vespel® CR-6100 parts for line shaft bearings and stationary wear rings. To demonstrate that Vespel® CR-6100 could survive these conditions, site personnel installed a retrofitted pump and performed a field test.
The operator of a pipeline in the Southwestern U.S. was searching for a case ring material for pumps that would enable improved operating efficiency, increase equipment reliability and avoid the seizing or galling problems encountered with metal components. The metal components were replaced with Vespel® CR-6100 parts, and the results were impressive.
The operator installed Vespel® CR-6100 parts as stationary wear components in boiler pumps. Clearance is about half that of the original design specifications of 0.016 in. (0.406 mm) for metal parts.
Vespel® thrust washers have been selected to replace larger and heavier metal thrust needle bearings positioned between the clutch casing and aluminum transmission housing.
