DuPont™ Nomex® IIIA
DuPont™ Nomex® IIIA: this innovative solution expands to form a stable and inert barrier between the fire and skin, which gives wearers the valuable seconds they need to help them escape from the hazard.
93% 1.7 decitex DuPont™ Nomex® meta-aramid
5% DuPont™Kevlar® para-aramid
2% antistatic fibre
Mainly used for blended solutions containing viscose FR and/or other fibre chemistries, resulting in a balanced composite blend meeting the rigors of the application. Woven or knitted fabrics made for single or multilayer garments, including underwear and shirts.
DuPont™ Nomex® IIIA has antistatic properties. Fabrics made of Nomex® fibre are tested in accordance with EN 1149-3 and fulfill the electrostatic protection requirements of EN 1149-5 for protective clothing.
Nomex® IIIA helps protect against low volume chemical splash and mist (EN 13034) if treated with fluorocarbon finish. Additional properties can be achieved by combining fabrics made of DuPont™ Nomex® fibres with other materials to provide protection against environmental hazards of rain (EN 343 and EN 14360), cold and cool environment (EN 342 and EN 14058), and against low voltage electrical current hazard (EN 50286).
Protection and norms
Thermal protection against heat and flame (EN531, ISO/FDIS 11612, EN 469) and electrical arc (IEC 61482-2/CDV).
Can be supplied pigmented for best light fastness or piece-dyed.

Nomex® & the Thermo-Man® Test
DuPont™ Thermo-Man® is a life-size mannequin equipped with 122 heat sensors dressed in test garments and exposed to a flash fire with temperatures rising up to 1,000°C.
Nomex® for Performance Durability
Garments made of Nomex® fibre have helped protect firefighters for decades. Continuous exhaustive testing proves that they excel in the long-term retention of their heat and flame protective qualities.
Nomex® for Lower Wear-Life Cost
Today’s firefighters need to be able to optimise budget vs. performance, without compromising on safety. For decades DuPont™ Nomex® fibre has demonstrated lasting protective performance, while helping to minimise repair and maintenance costs.
Nomex® for Heat Stress Protection
Heat stress is a dangerous condition in any situation, but for firefighters it can be especially life threatening. In fact, heat stress is the number-one cause of casualties among firefighters. Nomex® fibre helps reduce heat stress due to its higher air permeability.
Nomex® for Extra Seconds of Safety
Extensive testing shows that Nomex® fibre has remarkably low heat transfer. Under flash fire conditions, it helps provide firefighters valuable extra seconds of safety when they’re needed most.
Flame-Resistant Clothing for Laboratory Work
When working in a laboratory environment where exposure to flame is a hazard, flame-resistant garments help to minimize potential burn injury during short-term and emergency exposure to flame in laboratory work.
Comfort & Heat Stress
For maximum protection against fires, the body must be covered as completely as possible with flame-resistant protective clothing. This requires long pants and long sleeves, making for hot work in warm and humid climates. Understandably, industrial workers may be concerned about potential heat stress when wearing protective apparel. Learn more about the factors that can lead to heat stress, and how DuPont brands can help offer comfort and protection in protective garments.
