Honeycomb composites made of Nomex® can be found in a wide range of aerospace applications. Nomex® provides a flame and corrosion resistant solution that is stiff, strong, and lightweight.
In many aerospace applications, such as engine nacelles and wing-to-body fairings, honeycomb composites made of Nomex® have replaced heavier, weaker and corrosion-susceptible aluminum cores. This helps increase fuel efficiency and decrease maintenance costs.
Nomex® fibers and fabrics are used in interior wall and seat coverings to help meet aircraft interior flammability requirements. Developed in response to customer needs for burn through-resistant aircraft insulation, this unique material is a key example of the DuPont commitment to protecting commercial aircraft and their passengers.
Nomex® XF is a unique material that helps protect aluminum fuselage aircraft by providing a robust, durable and lightweight flame barrier that can help prevent outside fire from penetrating an aircraft cabin, allowing passengers additional time to escape such a hazard. It can also help prevent flame propagation so that aircraft insulation will not spread fire.
