PV Industry Should Learn from History and Jointly Promote Sustainable Growth
India’s solar power capacity has reached 12 GW and while market growth has been fast paced, the reducing tariffs are imposing significant cost pressures on module manufacturers. Significant price drop was witnessed in China in 2011-2012 and the impact of compromise on module quality was seen a few years later with large scale failures in the field. India’s PV industry needs to learn from experienced countries like China and not repeat the same mistakes for a sustainable solar growth.
In this article we discuss how to know whether materials used in a module are capable to withstand challenging climatic conditions through optimized test methodolgy that can reflect actual ageing of materials in field conditions.
