DuPontTM Corian® Heals State-of-the-Art Operating Theatre
In his quest to introduce the Sancheti Joint Replacement Center in Pune – a super-specialty hospital with a state-of-the-art operating theatre – Dr. K.H.Sancheti had a long list of criteria for his wall and interior cladding solution. The world-renowned and a National Award winner orthopedic surgeon was on the lookout for a material that’s easy to maintain, hygienic and ideal for critical spaces like the operation theatre.
Architects and designers from Opolis Architects and fabricators from Blossoms were faced with the daunting task of redefining the hospital space, especially in the context of specialized healthcare operations. In choosing the interior surface, they needed to consider factors like hygiene, maintenance and durability in the patient area that would also comply with the highest germ-free rating.
As Dupont™ Corian® surfaces are nonporous, dirt, bodily fluids and even low level contaminants are easily cleaned away, making it the perfect wall cladding material for the operating theatre. The architects used 4000 square feet of Corian, cladded over an innovative tile backed surface using silicone sealant, which eliminates all gaps and inhibits bacterial growth in the wall cladding and ceiling surfaces. Architects and designers also found a wide range of uses for Dupont™ Corian® in creating an aesthetically pleasing, totally hygienic healthcare environment in the reception room.
DuPontTM Corian® enables architects and designers to create spaces that, with proper cleaning, fit the needs of their healthcare installations. Operating theatres designed with Corian® surfaces resist common stains such as blood, Betadine and Gentian’s violet, and are easy to clean and maintain. Corian® surface does not support the growth of mould and mildew. The nonporous certified hygienic properties of Corian® make it the preferred solid surface material for healthcare applications and operating theatres.
